More than likely you already have a personal Facebook page, which is cool. And if you already have a personal Facebook page then you probably already have ton of friends, which is better.
One of the bad things about having a personal Facebook page is that you're limited to 5,000 friends. However, with the new timeline roll out now people who aren't on your friends list can subscribe to you feeds, sort of like following someone on Twitter, and the number of subscribers that one can have is unlimited.
With the Facebook fan pages you don't have friends. You have fans, and the number of fans one can have is limitless. The hard part is getting people to "like" your page. It's not like the personal Facebook page where you send out friend request & someone accepts you. People "like" your page & from their they follow you, which is nice because you don't have to mess with responding to friend request!
If you already have a personal Facebook page & you're thinking about starting a fan page, keep in mind the the same people that you already have as friends will more than likely be you fan, and the people that will be your fans are more than likely your Facebook friend already. So is it pointless to make a fan page, then?
I believe in the old saying, "Never mix business with pleasure." In the battle for personal page versus fan page I say that it's best to have both!
Trying to promote your business off of your personal Facebook page can be confusing to your friends. Are they your friends, or are they your fan? Remember: people have friends, businesses don't. Businesses have clients, customers, & fans.
I would use your personal page for pleasure. You have your family & friends on there. Let them enjoy you being you. Besides that, using your personal Facebook page for business purposes violates Facebook's terms & conditions, which can cause your account to be shut down.
The Facebook fan pages are geared for business. Here is some of the exciting things Facebook fan pages have to offer:
So, when it comes to Facebook fan pages vs. Facebook personal pages I say don't mix business with pleasure. Do all your marketing & promoting on one page, & have fun on the other!
- Like a website, you can create different pages. You can also install many different apps that will allow you to sell merchandise, get email address from your clients, run promotions, have give-a-ways, etc.
- It's got built in analytics. You can track how many people visit your page, what demographic they're from, & also what they clicked on while visiting your page.
- After you've got 25 fans who have "liked" your page you can make a custom URL. Your Facebook fan page is also highly searchable on Google, & it can be viewed by people who not apart of Facebook.
